After the sudden death of her husband in 1971, it was important to Dorothee Bürkert (1926 - 2012) that the company shareholding she owned would serve the future of the Bürkert Group in the long term and that the distributed earnings would benefit the general public.
For the long-term sustainability of Christian and Dorothee Bürkert's foundation concept, the trustees of the Christian “Bürkert Stiftung gGmbH” established the non-profit “Christian und Dorothee Bürkert Stiftung” in 2024.
This ensures that the future earnings from Dorothee Bürkert’s stake continue to benefit the general public. In addition, the distributed earnings, generated by the employees’ work, have an overall impact on society also including the staff members.
Christian Bürkert (1915–1971) founded an electrical engineering shop in 1946, which he built up into an internationally successful industrial company with enormous resourcefulness, a creative spirit of inventiveness and visionary foresight. Today, the Bürkert Group is active in more than 30 countries worldwide and employs over 3,700 people. Early on, Christian Bürkert had already considered transforming the enterprise he had established into a foundation. A key priority for him was the promotion of talented and creative young people.
Dorothee Bürkert (1926–2012), a qualified pharmacist, was responsible for the company after the sudden death of her husband in 1971. As the managing partner, she played a key role in the development of the Bürkert Group. In doing so, she prioritised socially responsible entrepreneurial activity. Recognising employees and their contributions, trusting cooperation on an equal footing, job security and training were particularly important to her.
