Through the EUCOR Excellence Chair "Water and Sustainability" at the University of Strasbourg, the Christian and Dorothee Bürkert Foundation promotes international cutting-edge research on water, the environment and sustainability. The chair, led by Prof. Dr. Martin Wantzen, is part of EUCOR – The European Campus, a trinational alliance of universities dedicated to strengthening European excellence in research and teaching.

The Christian and Dorothee Bürkert Foundation supports the EUCOR Excellence Chair "Water and Sustainability" at the University of Strasbourg. The chairholder, Prof. Dr. Karl Matthias Wantzen, is responsible for interdisciplinary research into sustainable water management and hydro‑climatological challenges.

The chair is part of EUCOR – The European Campus, a trinational alliance of leading universities in Germany, France and Switzerland. EUCOR aims to promote international cutting-edge research, innovative study programmes and sustainable European scientific structures through close cross-border collaboration.

The focus of the Excellence Chair is on research and teaching related to water and environmental systems, as well as their societal, ecological and economic significance. The funding contributes to international networking, the qualification of early-career researchers, and the development of practical solutions for global future challenges in the field of Water and Sustainability. Starting from the winter semester, a transdisciplinary master’s course, MASTER CONTINENTAL WATER SUSTAINABILITY, will also be offered.

The Christian and Dorothee Bürkert Foundation is supporting the Excellence Chair for a period of three years with a total of 150,000 euros.
